  1. We use monthly meal planning to save money on groceries. With as little spontaneous spending as possible, our monthly grocery bill stays much lower.

  2. Sounds great! I'm about to do a series of blog entries on grocery bills. I am learning so much about saving money on food lately, and I'm excited to pass this on!

  3. Groceries has always been where I saved the most money. I can knock off over $100-150 a month when I plan my meals. To go even farther, when you buy your groceries from your menu plan (I did mine once/month and then bought as much as I could first week of that month) make up some of your meals right away too. For example, if I planned lasagne for supper, I made2 using my supplies. Why make all that mess for 1 meal when likely you can make 2 for the price of a can of sauce. Spread the meat over 2 panfuls instead of one. This then made it possible to have a break from cooking without buying your meal. Another cost saving device is to have pot lucks or join with others when having movie night, etc. If you join with another family to watch a movie once or twice a month you share the cost of rentals. You see 2 movies but oly pay for 1. Also, make your own popcorn or treats--a batch of cookies lasts longer than one evening but it still is a treat during movie time.

  4. Home baked treats are fantastic! I recently figured out how to make my own potato chips, and those were a real hit!

I do like the idea of making double and freezing, but I usually forget to double a meal until I'm thinking of it later. I need to make a point of that. I do usually make double (or triple) pasta sauce, and if I'm roasting chicken, I do a lot and freeze it. But I have never thought of it as a way of saving money.
